The cuvée

Two vines, two generations, one wine.
Jean-Max passes it on.

The young 2017 Syrah brings intensity, tension and fruit, and shakes up the wisdom of the old 1960 Carignan.

Bush-trained as it always has been, the Carignan brings what only time can give: depth, complexity and the elegant bitterness of an old vine that has seen it all.

Jean-Max is in no hurry to seduce. It opens slowly and generously, onto blackberry, liquorice and oaky notes.

A red with character, made for the table.

Terroir

The plot

Our organically farmed Syrah and Carignan plots lie on the “Terrubi” land of the estate.

This is an area of “red pelite” soil, made up of fine, ruby-coloured sediments that give the wine structure, roundness and subtle aromas. On red pelite soil, the vines work hard.

These sedimentary rocks produce a clay soil tinted by iron oxides. It absorbs the heat of the day and slowly releases it at night. This thermal inertia prolongs the ripening of the grapes, giving them great aromatic richness.
A combination of two grape varieties that reveal the power and elegance of our terroir.

In the cellar

Winemaking & ageing

Each vintage is aged for 11 months in 500-litre French oak demi-muids.
Every year we renew half of our barrels, for a precise tannic structure and oaky aromas with notes of toast and tobacco.

The barrels have a medium toast, to preserve the aromatic intensity without masking it.

Part of the volume is aged in terracotta jars.
The benefit is twofold: it enhances the fruity, fresh side of the wine, while providing optimal micro-oxygenation.
